“We-and-I” is a professional association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists

We are united not only by our profession but also by long years of becoming within this professional field; it all started with the studies in Institute of Practical Psychology and Psychoanalysis (IPP&P). For each of us the higher psychological education is a second one, beforehand each had a higher education and practical experience in different areas of humanities or technical sciences. But it was IPP&P that gave us the opportunity to fulfill an interest to the laws around which human individual and social life is constructed and developed, to the deep hidden mechanisms and patterns of a human destiny.

At this unique Institute we get not only the basic psychological education but the specific psychoanalytic education. The Institute is the only one in our country that builds the education system according the Western model that includes not only the theoretical knowledge but also a personal clinical practice under the supervision of the experienced specialists, compulsory individual analysis or long-termed psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

It was here in a professional milieu of graduates of IPP&P where in 2002 the Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (SPP&P) was founded and later developed into a powerful and authoritative organization; we all are the members of this Society. We are united by common goals of maintaining the international educational and professional standards in the field of psychoanalytical psychotherapy. SPP is the only one Russian representative of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (EFPP). We are guided by the Ethical Code that is obligatory for all the members of our Society.

Up to the present moment our professional development continues within the frames of the membership (full, associated or guest one) in SPP; we also act and as the members, teachers and interpreters of numerous educational and training programs and seminars of both SPP and IPP&P. One of the bright examples of such activity was the three-years International program on psychoanalytical psychotherapy of psychosomatic patients with teachers from International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) – M.Shebek (Czech Republic), R.Lombardi (Italy), M.Vincent (France), K.Smadja (France), B.Kilborn (USA), M.Hirsch (Germany). Another meaningful event in our professional formation was a participation in the seminar on psychoanalytic psychotherapy of couples, held by American psychoanalyst and couple therapist, the founder and honorable President of Psychoanalytic Institute of Couples and Families of New England (USA) Kenneth Reich in 2007. That seminar became a starting point in our formation as psychoanalytic couples’ psychotherapists. The following long-term fruitful work – group and individual supervisions with this formidable specialist has helped us to get an experience in applying our professional skills to help couples. Since 2011 we started close collaboration with another leading American specialist - David E. Scharff, Chair of the Board and Former Director of the International Psychotherapy Institute (Chevy-Chase, Maryland, USA), and Vice-President of the International Association for Couple and Family Psychoanalysis. David Scharff is the author of numerous publications and books on couples’ psychotherapy, which had become basic manuals for many clinicians in Russia and around the world. The monthly supervisions of our clinical work with David in the recent few years help us to provide an effective support to couples who have problems, including crises with a threat of divorce.
